How to fix AirPods not connecting to mac

Just get the new AirPods but struggle with connecting AirPods to Mac? There are different facts that could cause the issue of AirPods not connecting to Mac. For example, you may forget to turn on Bluetooth on your Mac or you just need to get the latest Mac operating system.  In this post, we will introduce some solutions that could be used to fix Airpods not connecting to Mac.

How to fix AirPods not connecting to MacBook

Try these solutions if your Macbook can not connect to AirPods or AirPods Pro.

Update the Mac

It is important to note that you need to ensure your Mac has macOS Sierra or later if you are using 1st generation Airpods and the Mac needs to be macOS 10.14.4 or later for 2nd generation Airpods. When you find your Airpods can not connect with Mac successfully, try to update the MacBook to the latest system by following the steps below

1. Go to the Apple menu from the corner of the Mac screen

2. Go to System preferences and then tap on Software update

3. Now click on Update now to get the latest version

Close the charging lid and reopen it

To connect AirPods with Mac, you need to make sure the charging case is open with the AirPods inside the case. Another solution you can try to fix Airpods not connecting to Mac is to close the charging case for 15 to 20 seconds and then reopen it again. After that, press down the setup button on the back of the case for 10 seconds more or less until the light flashes white. Finally, check whether the devices can be connected successfully.

Remove AirPods and add again

This is a very simple fix but it may work out properly sometimes when your AirPods are not showing up on mac. Firstly, just remove the AirPods from the Bluetooth devices. You can do this by going to the Apple menu>System preferences>Bluetooth and then remove Airpods from the list of devices. To add AirPods, follow the steps again but add the AirPods instead.

Turn on Bluetooth on Mac

You need to enable Bluetooth on your Mac before pairing AirPods to Mac. So if you find the AirPods connection failed on your MacBook, make sure Bluetooth is turned on on Mac. To turn Bluetooth On, go to Apple menu>System preferences>Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on. Here you can also select Show Bluetooth in the menu bar and then tap on the Bluetooth status icon from the menu bar. After that, select Turn Bluetooth on

Charge the AirPods case

The reason why you cannot connect AirPods to MacBook or MacBook Pro is perhaps that the battery level of the Airpods is running out. If this is the case, just charge the AirPods for a while and then check again whether the devices can connect with each other.

Open the lid while connecting Airpods with Mac

To pair Airpods with Mac successfully, make sure the lid of the charging case is open and the AirPods are inside the charging case.

Reset AirPods

When you reset Airpods, your AirPods will disconnect with all already linked devices. If your airpods are not connecting to Mac, just try to reset AirPods according to the following solutions

1. Place the AirPods inside the charging case and also close the case lid.

2. Wait for 30 seconds more or less and then open the lid of charging case

3. Go to Settings>bluetooth on your iPhone and click on the i icon that is close to airpods

4. Click om Forget this device and click one more time to confirm

5. Keep the charging case lid open and then press down the setup button on the rear of the charging case until the light flashes amber.

Restart the mac

Restarting your Mac can help fix many software-related issues such as Mac keeping crashing, Mac shutting down itself, and more. Similarly, you can also try to restart your Mac when the problem of Airpods not connecting to Mac appears.

Clean the charging case

Sometimes, the culprit causing AirPods connection issues could be some dirty spots on the surface of your Airpods. It is advisable to use a dry and clean cloth to clean the AirPods gently.  Please clean it carefully without damaging the device and make sure the cloth is dry.

Contact customer support

If the solutions above still can not fix the issue,  perhaps there are some hardware glitches. When this happens, you will have to contact the Apple customer service center and get help from their professionals
