Have you ever experienced a situation where you tried to open WhatsApp but it keeps crashing on your phone? Due to some reasons, the issue of WhatsApp keeps crashing may occur when you need to send an important chat or call your friends using the WhatsApp app. If this issue brings you some inconveniences, do not worry further as we will introduce a variety of solutions about how to fix WhatsApp keeping crashing or stopping on your Android or iPhone.
1. Restart your phone
This trick works very well just by rebooting your phone when there are some issues occurring on your smartphone. You just need to long-press the power button and restart your phone if WhatsApp keeps crashing on your device. Sometimes, the WhatsApp crashing problem could be caused by some software or system bugs. Rebooting a smartphone is helpful to fix some common problems on an Android or iPhone such as network connection, overheating, slow performance, freezing or not responding, just to speak a few.
2. Update WhatsApp app
It’s not unfamiliar to us that the developers constantly update their apps to bring the users a better experience along with fixing some bugs that may exist for the outdated app. It’s also worth noting that sometimes you may even face some unexpected problems after getting the new update. At this time, when these glitches are found, the app developer will usually find a fix and ask their users to update the app to fix these glitches. Therefore, if WhatsApp keeps crashing on your phone, please just go to Settings on your phone and find the system and update to get a new update. Apart from this, you can also find the latest WhatsApp from the Play Store or App store.
3. Clear WhatsApp cached data
The cache stores some information which is used to help load the WhatsApp app faster next time when you open it. If there are lots of cache files, they may become corrupted or overloaded, thus affecting the phone performance. So if WhatsApp keeps crashing, you can try to clear the WhatsApp cache as shown below
- From the home screen, locate the settings and tap Apps
- After that, find the WhatsApp app and then tap storage
- Just select the option of Clear cache
Note: Clearing cache will not clear any data on your phone
4. Uninstall android system webview update
Recently, some Android users say they fixed the issue of apps crashing by uninstalling the Android system webview update. So if you also have a similar problem like WhatsApp crashing automatically, why not take it a try to uninstall Android system webview update on your phone. Follow the steps below please
- Go to settings on your Android Phone
- Next, tap Apps & notifications
- Find the app of Android system webview
- Now tap the three-dots at the right top and select uninstall updates.
5. Reset network setting
An unstable network connection could cause the apps crashing problem sometimes. If this is the case, a simple fix is to reset network setting on your Android or iPhone. Please note it only clears the local network connection as well as other paired devices after resetting network setting. Resetting network connection does not delete any data on your phone.
- Locate the settings on your phone
- Find the general management or system option
- Next, scroll down to find the reset option
- Select the option of reset network settings.
After you choose to reset network settings, you just clear the login and connections for WiFi and some other paired network like Bluetooth, etc.
6. Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp app
It works properly just to uninstall the apps and reinstall them again when some Apps are corrupted or not performing properly as they should be. This is the same true for WhatsApp so if you have a similar problem of WhatsApp crashing automatically, just uninstall WhatsApp and reinstall it on your phone.
- Uninstall WhatsApp on your Android or iPhone
- Next, Go to the Play Store or app store to reinstall it again
- log in with your personal data and check whether it can work normally now
7. Check your phone’s memory
This could become another culprit leading to the issue of WhatsApp keeps closing. If your phone is out of space, it may run very slowly, thus affecting the performance of the apps. When the phone memory is insufficient, you may receive a popup window telling you your phone is low on memory. When this happens, try to free up space on your Android or iPhone. For example, you can delete some unnecessary files, particularly some large video files and check again whether the WhatsApp app can work normally.
