When it comes to cutting a video, the first thing that comes to our mind is video editing timeline where you can cut or trim a video. This is the same true for Shotcut free video editing software. Compared to other video editors for PC, Shotcut timeline is super easy for cutting a video. Now let’s follow the detailed steps below about how to cut in Shotcut.

  1. First off, you will need to download and run the Shotcut video editor on your PC or mac. The software is very lightweight, so it doesn’t require you to own a device with an advanced operating system.
  2. After running the program, locate the Open File from the top left corner in the interface to add a video file from your computer
  3. Next, drag the video file to the shotcut timeline. You can also right-click the mouse on the empty space and select track operations to add more video/audio
  4. In this step, you will begin to cut video in Shotcut. First off, just move the white Playhead to the place you want to cut a video.  Then, press “S” key on your keyboard to split the video. To split a video, you can also locate the Icon called Split at Playhead above the timeline.  After the video is split or separated, just select the video part you want to delete and press “Delete” key to remove it.  If the video clip you need to remove is very short, then just zoom in or out of the video clip first and then cut the video easier.
  5. After finishing cutting the video, you could drag different pieces of video clips together.
  6. Finally, please go to File from the left top of the interface and find the Export video option to save the video. When you export video in Shotcut, you can click on Advanced to select video export format along with changing the video resolution and more.
