How to Speed up Windows 7-Tested Simple Tricks

These are 9 tested magic tricks I just used today before I write this post about how to speed up Windows 7. I have used my Toshiba laptop windows 7 for more than 6 years and I ever sent it to a computer repair shop 2 times for installing the windows system.  But since I installed the windows 7 system this October when the PC always shuts down itself, the laptop became very slow to run. I just planned to buy a new one but fortunately, I searched some solutions online and also applied these solutions to successfully speed up my windows 7 laptop.  If you are in the same situation where your windows 7 is very slow, I hope the following tips about how to speed up Windows 7 will also help you

Note: Although these solutions worked efficiently for me to speed up my Toshiba windows 7 laptop, the actual results may vary on different devices. Therefore, you should know about the fact that these solutions are given for reference.

Change the time to display operating systems and recovery options

First off, just check the options of Time to display list of operating systems and Time to display recovery options when needed in Windows 7 as well as changing the time to 0 for both options. You can  follow the steps below

  • Right-click my computer on desktop and then select properties
  • Select the Advanced system setting and then choose the Advanced tab
  • Click on settings under the Startup and recovery
  • Now check the two options of Time to display  list of operating systems and Time to display recovery options when needed and change the number to 0 for both options

Enable GUI boot

You can also enable GUI boot to speed up windows 7. I ever tried this and it seems this also works to hellp speed up windows 7.

  • Press Windows +R on your windows 7 to open the command
  • Next, type Msconfig and then select the system configuration
  • Now select the Boot tab and check the option of No Gui boot

Disable startup programs in windows

Similarly, you could disable startup programs in windows to  speed up laptop windows 7 by following the solutions below

  • Open the command by pressing windows +R keys on your PC
  • Now type Msconfig and then choose system configuration
  • Next, choose the startup tab and uncheck the programs that you want to disable when PC starts up.

Enable Adjust for best performance

Another tip for speeding up windows 7 is to enable Adjust for best performance option on your computer.

  • Just go to my computer on desktop and right-click the properties option
  • Choose the advanced system setting tab on the left sidebar
  • Now select the  advanced tab
  • Click on settings under the performance option
  • Check the option of adjusting for best performance under the visual effects tab

Delete temp files in windows 7

If there are so many temp files in windows, it will also affect the device performance. But you can take the steps below to delete the temp files in windows 7

  • Open the command by pressing windows +R keys
  • Then type the %temp% and press enter key
  • Now select all the files using your mouse and right-click the mouse to delete all the temp files here.
  • Click on pass or confirm if a pop-up window appears.

Note: Do not worry about deleting these temp files as it will not affect the system.

Release and renew IP address in windows

I do not why this solution works but many people say this tip works perfectly to make windows 7 faster just by releasing and renewing Ip address in windows. You can do so following the tips below

  • Select start menu in windows screen and type cmd.
  • Then right-click the cmd and run as administrator
  • Now type ipconfig/release and then type the ipconfig/renew to finish the process.
  • Just close the window when you finish this process.

Run the chkdsk in windows-Done cautiously

Many users use this tip to speed up windows 7 and it really works well to make the computer run faster. You can follow the tips below.

  • Select the Windows icon from the left corner of your screen
  • Then type cmd and right-click the cmd file. After that, select run as administrator
  • Now type the chkdsk and wait for a while.
  • If it does not show any issues then just close the window
  • If there are some issues, then type sfc/scannow again

Note: Some users reported they encounter the error of blue screen or blank screen after running the chkdsk that helps fix some disk-related errors. So you should do this carefully and know about this fact.

Manage  virtual memory in windows 7

If your windows 7 runs very slowly, you could also manage the virtual memory according to the tips below.

  • Right-click My Computer on desktop and select properties
  • Now select the Advanced system setting and choose the advanced tab
  • Next, tap on settings under the performance
  • Again, choose the advanced tab and click on settings under the virtual memory
  • Now you will need to uncheck the option of Automatically manage paging file size for all drives checkbox.

In the fields of custom size, enter the initial size and maximum size in megabytes. Here, for the initial size, it will be 1024x(your ram GB)x1.5 and for the maximum size, it will be 1024x(your pc ram GB)x2. For example, if my windows PC’s ram is 8GB, then the initial and maximum sizes will be 1024x8x1.5 and 1024x8x2 respectively. So the initial size and maximum size will be 12288 and 16384 respectively.

Uninstall the programs you do not need

It is common to know that too many programs will slow down your computer but many people still keep many unnecessary programs on their computer. But if you find your windows 7 is running very slow, it is time to uninstall those programs you do not need now.
